Home Up The Crew The Yacht The Fun

I only had one week of October to work but managed to fit the third plate.  Amazingly the large and cumbersome plates to handle (6m x 1m) have fitted onto the frames and disappear on to the hull, highlighting just how big the boat will be.

Steve Blackwell delivered our sawn Oak tree. This has been cut in various thicknesses and layered with poplar sticks between the planks to allow the wood to dry. Poplar strips are used because they do not stain or mark the other Oak.  This wood will be left to dry naturally for at least 2 years and then finished off in a kiln before being ready for use by the cabinet maker to produce the boat interior.

I spent the day packing away tools, materials, etc.  It is starting to get cold in the barn, so much longer and I would not be able to continue work on the boat anyway.  I have had an excellent summer's work, considering how little time I had on the actual build in 2003.  Now our dream has started to take shape but it must wait during the long winter while I am away earning the money for the next stage.
